Overview

This tour is brand new and offers guests the opportunity to trek gorillas in both Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park in Uganda and Parc National des Volcans in Rwanda without missing out on some of the fabulous parks and reserves in Uganda. We include Chimpanzee tracking in the Kibale Forest, multiple game drives in Queen Elizabeth National Park with its wide array of wildlife, including the famous tree climbing lions, and a visit to Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary on beautiful Lake Victoria. Uganda boasts some of the best bird watching in Africa, with over 1000 different species, including the rare shoebill stork and the remarkable grey crowned crane.

12 Days Itinerary

Day 1 - Entebbe, Uganda

Arrive at Entebbe International Airport where you will be met by our representative and transferred to your accommodation. Depending on your arrival time, a half day trip to Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary can be arranged.

Day 2 - Fort Portal Town, Uganda

Depart Entebbe for Fort Portal Town (approximately 6 hours), stopping en-route for lunch and arriving at Ndali Lodge around mid-afternoon. Optional activities are available this afternoon – time permitting including a visit to a nearby vanilla producing farm or a walk around the crater lake besides the lodge.

Day 3 - Chimpanzee Trek, Kibale Forest National Park, Uganda

This activity will generally take place in the morning. Embark on an approximately 50 minute drive to the Kibale Forest National Parks’ headquarters to meet your guides for your morning’s chimp tracking experience. The forest is alive with noises and you should be lucky enough to see the habituated chimps during your trek but be prepared for a well-paced hike through the forest as these chimpanzees move throughout their large home range area.

Day 4 - Mweya Sector, Queen Elizabeth National Park, Uganda

Depart for the Mweya sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park, rich with wildlife, visitors will find vast numbers of Uganda’s unique and strange Euphorbia, or “candelabra” tree. The many nearby crater lakes and mountain ranges provide a beautiful backdrop for your journey.

Day 5 - Ishasha Sector, Queen Elizabeth National Park, Uganda

Depart for the Ishasha (Southern) Sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park, taking in a Game Drive en-route. Overnight at Ishasha Wilderness Camp.

Day 6 - Ishasha Sector, Queen Elizabeth National Park, Uganda

Spend the day enjoying game drives in the Ishasha sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park. Queen Elizabeth National Park spreads over 1,978 sq km in the western arm of the Great Rift Valley and is home to a wide variety of wildlife including elephants, lions, hippos, buffalo, Uganda kob, baboon, and many species of birds. With both a riverine and savannah habitat, the park includes the southern Ishasha area with its tree climbing lions and Maramagambo, one of the largest surviving natural forests in Uganda. The northern Mweya area, traversed by the equator and dominated by the scenery of crater lakes, is often occupied by large flocks of flamingos. A boat trip from Mweya along the Kazinga Channel, which joins Lakes Edward and George, provides one of the most memorable experiences offered by the park.

Day 7 - Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park, Uganda

After breakfast depart Queen Elizabeth National Park and travel (2-3 hours) to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park. During our drive from Ishasha to Bwindi, we may visit a Community Project on the border of Queen Elizabeth National Park. Here the local people allow you to enjoy some time in their homesteads, as well as see some of crops and curios they produce, and visit the local elephant trench project – which stops elephants coming into the village and raiding crops.

Day 8 - Gorilla Trek, Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park, Uganda

Following breakfast at the lodge, travel to National Park Headquarters to meet your guides for the day and begin your gorilla tracking experience. Experienced guides and trackers will accompany your party on an early morning trek into the dense rain forest on the mountain slopes. The journey, through dense foliage and up steep climbs, is abundantly rewarded with the lifetime experience of viewing mountain gorillas in their natural habitat.

Day 9 - Second Gorilla Trek or Optional Activities, Uganda

Those with pre-purchased permits will depart for a second gorilla tracking experience following breakfast at the lodge. Depending upon individual itinerary schedules, guests not tracking gorillas may wish to enjoy other activities available.

Day 10 - Kinigi area, Rwanda

After breakfast, we drive through an area of great beauty, often referred to as the Little Switzerland of Africa, you will travel on mountainous roads through the highlands of Uganda to Kisoro border – where the Virungas stand proudly along the Rwanda/DRC and Uganda borders. From here we drive into Rwanda, and settle into our overnight accommodation at Kinigi area. The drive takes in the region of 7-8 hours depending on the border and road conditions locally.

Day 11 - Gorilla Trek, Parc National des Volcans, Rwanda

After breakfast at the lodge, travel to Parc National des Volcans Headquarters to meet your guides for the day and begin your gorilla tracking experience. Experienced guides and trackers will accompany your party on an early morning trek up the volcanoes to the forest above. The journey, through the forest and up steep climbs, is abundantly rewarded with the lifetime experience of viewing mountain gorillas in their natural habitat. You will have an opportunity to be within meters of these magnificent apes, sharing in their daily lives and experiencing their day-to-day activities. Mountain gorillas are extremely rare with only an estimated 700 remaining in the wild. This is an experience you won’t soon forget!

Day 12 - Safari ends in Kigali, Rwanda

Day 13: Voyager Beach Resort

Nyali Voyager Beach Resort’s is convenient giving guests access to a variety of historical, sporting and cultural attractions, including Africa’s largest crocodile farm.

Day 14: Voyager Beach Resort

Activities include: Deep sea diving; Glass-bottom boat rides over the coral reefs. 3 swimming pools, and a whirlpool. Specialised kids entertainment centre.

After breakfast, transfer to Nairobi where you will be booked into your dayroom before transferring to JKIA for your onward flight
